The Korean Low Impact Development Association established its European branch in Frankfurt, Germany
February 20, 2024 – Seoul, Korea – The Korea Low Impact Development Association (President Kyung-Young Choi) announced that it has begun its full-fledged entry into the European market by establishing a European branch in Frankfurt, Germany on the 21st. This branch establishment is evaluated as a strategic move to respond to the severe climate crisis in Europe and expand the overseas market for Korean Low Impact Development (K-LID) technology.
Recently, Europe has been experiencing frequent heavy rain and flood damage due to the severe impact of climate change. In particular, Germany experienced severe damage last August, including flooding at Frankfurt Airport and the subway. In this situation, Korean Low Impact Development (K-LID) technology is attracting attention as a core technology for sustainable urban development and environmental problem solving.
The Korea Low Impact Development Association is a non-profit corporation under the Ministry of Environment established in 2018. It develops various technologies to solve environmental pollution problems caused by rapid urbanization and promote eco-friendly land use. In particular, Korean Low Impact Development technology is evaluated as minimizing urban flood damage and enabling sustainable water management through its excellent water circulation capacity and long-term permeability.
The establishment of this European branch was made at the request of Professor Alfred Hoffmann, a member of the Frankfurt Urban Planning Committee. Recognizing the outstanding excellence of Korean Low Impact Development technology, Professor Hoffmann requested the association to establish a branch to apply it to climate change response and urban flood problem solving in Frankfurt and other European cities.
Through the establishment of the European branch, the Korea Low Impact Development Association expects the following effects.
Expansion of European Market Entry: Actively introducing Korean Low Impact Development technology across Europe and establishing an export base
Establishment of Local Partnerships: Building partnerships with major European institutions and companies for technology exchange, joint research, and business promotion
Strengthening Global Competitiveness: Accelerating the overseas market entry of Korean Low Impact Development technology and strengthening global competitiveness
Leading the Dissemination of Korean Low Impact Development Technology Overseas in the Era of Climate Change
Kyung-Young Choi, President of the Korea Low Impact Development Association, stated, “The establishment of this European branch will serve as an important stepping stone for the overseas market entry of Korean Low Impact Development technology.” He also emphasized, “The association will actively disseminate the technology across Europe, centered on the European branch, and build local partnerships to contribute to solving urban flood problems in the era of climate change.”
The Korea Low Impact Development Association is a non-profit corporation under the Ministry of Environment established on October 30, 2018, with the aim of responding to environmental pollution due to rapid urbanization, solving problems using various technologies, promoting eco-friendly land use centered on Low Impact Development (LID), establishing a healthy water circulation system, and contributing to the safety and quality improvement of citizens' lives.
