Yeongdeungpo, a Cultural City, Hosts the 'Art & Technology City Award STATION Y'

Yeongdeungpo-gu Office (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) and the Yeongdeungpo Cultural Foundation (CEO Lee Geon-wang) will hold the Art & Technology City Award ‘STATION Y - 2401240204’ from January 24th to February 4th at STATION Y in Munrae-dong, showcasing experimental works combining art and technology.

The Art & Technology City Award is a comprehensive exhibition that showcases the results of the creation and production works, creation and production activities, creation and production performances, and Living Fair products that ‘Cultural City Yeongdeungpo’ has been promoting as an art and technology convergence project in 2023. A total of 34 artists participated in this exhibition. The exhibition title ‘STATION Y - 2401240204’ represents the coordinates designated by the artists for their new work in the abandoned factory built in the 1950s. This event consists of three projects.

The first section is an opportunity for artists who were finally selected through ‘ARTECH WAVE’, which has been carried out as part of the Cultural City project since last October, to share the results of their research over several months. Artists Robotlab, Eom A-rong, Yoon Jang-ho, and Han Jae-seok were inspired by Munrae-dong, where they can create anything except living things, and present projects that expand their senses to space.

The second section features 22 creative works that diversely express the fusion of art and technology using Arduino and Unity, which can be found in the ‘ARTECH INFRA’ digital archive.

Finally, the Yeongdeungpo Living Fair ‘YDP EDITION’ introduces works created to be used in daily life based in Yeongdeungpo. Here, you can encounter high-end line objects by artists Ando Hyun and Choi Jong-pil, and about 10 types of goods selected through a competition will be sold. In addition, Kim Dong-han's performance, which reinterprets the theme of the exhibition as a sound visualization work, and Han Jae-seok's special performance will provide a variety of experiences.

Yeongdeungpo, a hub of various manufacturing technologies, including ultra-precision metal processing, has been loved by artists for a long time due to its attractive work environment, leading to a series of interesting projects combining art and technology. As the title ‘STATION Y - 2401240204’ suggests, the event aims to showcase the potential and possibilities of these resources in Yeongdeungpo creating another direction along with the start of 2024. Through this, visitors will have an opportunity to awaken their hidden senses.

The Yeongdeungpo Cultural Foundation is a place that creates a neighborhood of friendship and hospitality, and a diverse cultural production city of Yeongdeungpo together. It operates cultural spaces such as a performance hall, library, and art/youth support center, and actively promotes local culture and arts by utilizing rich cultural resources such as the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival and the Munrae Art Creation Village.
